Mr. Clark has over 15 years’ experience as a modeler and analyst. For the last decade, he has been involved in discrete event and discrete rate modeling as well as optimization through mathematical programming. He has been the primary ExtendSim instructor in the US since 2004. His classes include introductory simulation classes as well as advanced classes in designing simulation databases and authoring custom simulation components.
He has worked on numerous projects in various industries. He has developed models in the area of healthcare for designing new emergency departments, surgical suites, and inpatient facilities. He has developed large supply chain models which not only focused on using simulation to study the effects of variation but also incorporated mathematical programming to optimize sourcing as well as dynamic programming to determine safety stock. He has developed models in the area of manufacturing for determining the right capacity as well as generating manufacturing schedules using optimization and testing manufacturing schedules using simulation.
He has worked as an operations analyst for Resource Optimization Inc. developing shrink wrapped optimization software. The software integrated a form based database interface with an optimization solver. He was responsible for the process which read the data from the database, formulated the mathematical model, passed the formulation to solver, and returned the solution back to the database. This software tool was used primarily for minimizing costs in blending ingredients for the food industry.
